Secure Sites Issues

If having trouble logging into secure sites, and it does not appear to be a password/username issue, then the following advice may help.

In Internet Explorer, security settings are setup for the following four zones:

  • Internet
This zone contains all web sites the user has not placed in other zones. The Medium security level is re-configured We recommend that the user does not change these settings globally, unless in the unlikely event that he or she need to increase the level to High. If these settings are changed, the user may change the global value by moving the slider bar either up or down. He or she may customize individual permissions for the Internet zone by selecting Custom Level. The customization feature enables him or her to customize how the computer will handle ActiveX controls, plug-ins, scripts, cookies, downloads, Java, and more.

  • Local Intranet
This zone is setup by default to use Medium security. This setting applies only to LAN users. If a home LAN is used, the user is responsible for determining how to configure this zone. Note: We do not provide support for questions relating to configuration or settings for home LANs.

  • Trusted Sites
Trusted Sites are those sites on the Internet that the user proactively enables. This zone contains web sites that her or she trusts not to damage the computer or data. The default security level for this zone is low. If certain that a regularly visited site can be trusted, it may be added to the list of trusted sites by following the instructions at the bottom of this article.

  • Restricted
This zone contains web sites that could potentially damage the computer or data. We recommend that these settings are not changed from the preconfigured High security level. If the user has been advised of potentially damaging web sites, he or she may add them to the restricted sites list by clicking Sites and entering the URLs in the field provided.

The default settings are recommended for most users but can be modified as needed.

To view or edit security settings:

  1. Open Internet Explorer and select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
  2. Click the Security tab to view zones and to customize settings.

To add a site, such as the Broadband Support home page, to the Trusted Sites list:

  1. While displaying Trusted Sites security levels, click Sites to display the Trusted Sites add/remove window.
  2. Click to unmark Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone if it is selected.
  3. Enter www.broadbandsupport.net in the Add field and then click the Add button. Click the OK button to save the changes.
  4. Click the OK button to close Internet Options.

If checking the settings does not resolve the issue, the user may want to try downloading a different browser.
